Proposal to increase HSNO fees

We are seeking feedback on proposals to increase the fees for hazardous substances and new organisms applications.

We are also seeking feedback on the requirement for import certificates for explosives and novelty fireworks.

This would mean the costs that we recover in fees from applications under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act may increase.

We recovered just $575,000 of the $5.2million (11 percent) it costs to deliver the services in the financial year ended 30 June 2017.

What the proposed changes cover

  • The costs of processing applications for hazardous substances and new organisms services.
  • A review on whether there is a need for import certificates for explosives and novelty fireworks.

Input from the public and interested parties is now being sought on the effects of the proposed changes.
