A new fungicide AMICUS

Your views are being sought on an application to introduce a new fungicide AMICUS into New Zealand to protect potatoes and brassicas.

Nufarm Limited has applied to us to import for release AMICUS to combat club root in vegetable brassicas and powdery scab in potatoes.

The active ingredient in AMICUS, amisulbrom, is already approved in Australia, Europe and Japan.

AMICUS is in the form of water-dispersible granules. The application method on brassicas is by drenching the seedlings immediately prior to transplanting. AMICUS will be sprayed onto potatoes in the furrows at planting.

The applicant says that AMICUS is a low risk, cost-effective means of protecting brassica crops from damage caused by club root, and will increase the choice of farmers to control this disease.
