Standard for zoo containment facilities
Decision Date: 30 April 2018
We approved a new standard for zoo containment facilities.
The new standard comes into force on 1 July 2018, and replaces the MAF Biosecurity New Zealand Standard 154.03.04 Containment Facilities for Zoo Animals.
However, there will be a transitional period of 12 months, ending on 30 June 2019, during which zoo containment facilities may choose to comply with the previous standard.
We received three submissions during the consultation.

Guidance available soon
MPI is developing guidance material to help people who have to comply with the standard. It will include information about how the requirements can be met, what measures will be considered acceptable, and what information needs to be provided to MPI to assess whether requirements are met. This is expected to be available by the end of June 2018.
If you have any questions regarding the guidance material, please contact Vicki Melville at MPI, via this email email@example.com.
If you have any questions regarding the approved standard, please contact Aubanie Raynal at the EPA via this email firstname.lastname@example.org
