Independent panel approves Papakura to Pukekōhe rail upgrade
30 July 2021
An expert consenting panel has cleared the way for Auckland metro rail services to be improved between Papakura and Pukekōhe.
A decision published today enables electrification and upgrading between the two stops on the North Island main trunk line.
KiwiRail applied for resource consents to be considered under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-Track Consenting) Act 2020.
The expert consenting panel has today granted resource consents with conditions.
The decision came 99 working days after being lodged with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), which is not involved in the decision-making.
The EPA provides advice and administrative support for the Panel Convener, Judge Newhook, and the expert consenting panels he appoints.
