Consultation to improve hazardous substance decision-making

The Government is proposing to strengthen the assessment process for hazardous substances.

This will mean that the potential risks to people and the environment are better managed.

We approve and set controls on hazardous substances to manage these risks. We have been working closely with the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) on the proposals, which will also provide us with more flexibility and discretion when making decisions, and improve efficiency.

The new proposals include the ability to better use international information about substances from certain trusted international regulators, and improve the quality of information received from applicants.
