This page has the decision reports for granting or declining previous notified and non-notified marine consent applications since 2013.
The decision reports for all marine consent applications made by oil and gas operators are covered in this section.
Where an operator has also applied for discharge consent separately from the marine consent application, the discharge consent will sit under the "Discharge of harmful substances" section and be linked to the marine consent in this section.
All other documents relating to the marine consent application, including decision maker correspondence, submissions (if any), evidence, and all documentation relating to the hearing (if held), are not available on this website.
These documents can be requested using the Official Information Act process.
On 1 January 2021 OMV GSB Limited was amalgamated into OMV New Zealand Limited under s219 of the Companies Act 1993.
The marine consents EEZ200009-1, EEZ200009-2, and EEZ100018 are no longer held by OMV GSB Limited but are now held by OMV New Zealand Limited. Accordingly, the marine consents were updated to reflect the company amalgamation on 16 April 2021.

On 18 February 2020, we issued amended marine consent (EEZ200009-1)and marine discharge consent (EEZ200009-2) to OMV GSB Limited to make minor corrections under section 84 of the EEZ Act.
For the marine consent, the amendments were to the consent number, the definition of 'Regional Model Area', and Conditions 12a), 12c), 15, 16, 20, 45, 46, 47, 48, 48a) 48b), and 48c). For the marine discharge consent, the amendments were to the consent number and Table 1.
The amendments did not affect the decision made by the Decision-making Committee (DMC) on 16 December 2019.

On 16 December 2019 the Decision-making Committee (DMC) appointed by the EPA granted, subject to conditions, marine consent and marine discharge consent EEZ200009. The consents are for activities associated with an exploration and appraisal drilling programme within OMV GSB Limited’s Petroleum Exploration Permit area PEP50119, located in the Great South Basin (offshore Otago).

On 11 September 2019, the Decision-making Committee granted, subject to conditions, a marine discharge consent to OMV GSB Limited. The consent is for the discharge of trace amounts of harmful substances, as offshore processing drainage, from the deck drains of a Mobile Offshore Unit within Petroleum Exploration Permit area PEP50119 within the Great South Basin.
On 8 March 2019, we issued an amended marine consent to OMV New Zealand Limited to correct minor errors in the definition of ‘cuttings’ and Conditions 11b, 16a, 24 and 24a and 28c(i) of the marine consent.
The amendments to the marine consent do not affect the decision made by the OMV New Zealand Limited Decision-making Committee on 15 January 2019.

On the 15 January 2019, the Decision-making Committee (DMC) appointed by the EPA granted subject to conditions consent EEZ200010. The marine consent is for activities associated with an exploration and appraisal drilling programme within OMV New Zealand Limited’s permit areas offshore Taranaki.

After receiving the marine consent in September 2014, OMV requested the EPA change condition 12. This request was granted on 23 December 2014, and a revised marine consent was issued to OMV.

On 19 June 2020, we issued an amended marine consent and marine discharge consent to OMV Taranaki Limited (OTL) to correct minor omissions, errors, or other defects in the conditions of consent. The amendments do not affect the decision made by the Decision-making Committee (DMC) on 8 May 2020 or the period of time to appeal the decision.

On 8 May 2020, the DMC appointed by the EPA granted, subject to conditions marine consent and marine discharge consent to OTL.
The consents are for activities related to exploration and appraisal drilling and the discharge of harmful substances, associated with OTL’s Maui Exploration and Drilling (EAD) programme (within Petroleum Mining Licence (PML) 381012) located in the Maui Field within the Taranaki Basin.

On 29 November 2019, we issued a change of consent conditions to OMV Taranaki Limited’s marine discharge consent EEZ100014-2. The change of consent conditions was to cancel Condition 10 and amend Condition 11.
