1080 Annual Returns Due

In the interests of public safety any laboratory or other place of work that holds, obtains or manufactures sodium fluoroacetate (1080) must submit an annual notification to the EPA. This is to cover the period 1 January to 31 December 2016.

Notifications are due by Friday 31 March 2017. 

The notification is required under clause 17 of the Hazardous Substances (Exempt Laboratories) regulations 2001 and clause 53 of the Hazardous Substances (Classes 6, 8, and 9 Controls) Regulations 2001. Please use this form to submit your 1080 information. Consultation open - Hazardous Property Controls Notice
We're seeking submissions on a consultation paper and exposure draft of a Hazardous Property Controls Notice proposing rules to protect the general public and the environment from hazardous substances. These proposals provide an update on proposed rule changes released for consultation in October 2016.

We invite you to make submissions on these proposals. Submissions close at 5pm on 19 April 2017.

All submissions must be submitted in writing via email to hsnotices@epa.govt.nz or mail to Private Bag 63002, Wellington 6140, New Zealand. 


Further consultation opening soon - Transitional regulations 
In the coming weeks we'll be opening consultation for your feedback on transitional regulations for the Hazardous Substances legislation. The transitional regulations will make sure that any requirements set in the Hazardous Property Controls Notice that cover regulatory gaps created by workplace hazardous substance controls moving to the Health and Safety Work Act will be in force for all existing and new approvals from December 2017.

Decisions on hazardous substances applications in February 2017

Decisions were made on the following hazardous substances applications in this period:

APP202993 by Koppers Performance Chemicals New Zealand to import Soluble Copper Azole, a water based concentrate containing 8.6% w/v Cu metal (as copper ammonium carbonate), 1.17% w/v boric acid and 0.38% w/v tebuconazole.

Decision: Approved with Controls and decision notified on 2 February 2017

APP202748 by AgriHealth NZ Limited to import/manufacture Coxipol 25 % Premix, a granular premix containing clopidol, for use in poultry feed as an anti-coccidiostat Veterinary Medicine.

Decision: Approved with Controls and decision notified on 2 February 2017

APP203086 by Waste Management NZ Limited to import POPs and PCBs into containment for re-export as hazardous waste for environmentally sound disposal.

APP202877 by Industrial Quimica Key, S.A. to import Tina Miticide and Insecticide containing 18 g/L abamectin as an emulsifiable concentrate for the control of mites, leafrollers and tomato/potato psyllid in a range of horticultural crops.

APP203128 by STM Group NZ Limited to import Expra Stop Spiders Surface Spray, an insecticide spray containing pyrethroid insecticidal actives cyphenothrin 2.5 g/kg and tetramethrin 2.0 g/kg for domestic use to control spiders and a variety of crawling insect pests.

Amendments to hazardous substances approvals

APP202336 by Dow AgroSciences (NZ) Ltd. to amend approval HSR101108 (GF-2687) to remove the 6.9B classification.
