The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has lodged a request for changes to policies, the addition of a new policy, and two new definitions to the Greater Wellington Regional Freshwater Plan with the EPA (the plan change request). NZTA have indicated that the plan change is designed to better enable the consideration of resource consent applications relating to the NZTA’s Transmission Gully Project.

A new Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) will be established as a Crown agent responsible to the Minister for the Environment. The new EPA is expected to be operational by 1 July 2011.

The Environmental Protection Authority has appointed Hamish Hey of Hey Consulting Ltd to act as the friend of submitters for Contact Energy Limited’s Tauhara II Geothermal Development Project.

Environment Minister Nick Smith today announced that he has referred Contact Energy's proposal for a geothermal power station in the Tauhara steam field near Taupo to an independent Board of Inquiry.
