Transporting hazardous substances

New Zealand’s transport rules are derived from the recommendations of the international agencies for the transport of dangerous goods covering each transport sector.

The Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act defers to the labelling and packaging rules set by the relevant transport agency (see below). If you have any queries on the transport of hazardous substances, seek advice from the relevant agency websites:

The relevant transport rule will identify whether an approved handler is needed for transporting packaged hazardous substances.
