Explosives must be approved under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act before they can be imported or manufactured in New Zealand.

Is your explosive approved?
To find out whether your explosive is approved, check the New Zealand Legislation website or search the New Zealand Inventory of Chemicals (NZIoC) below.
Or you can also ask to do it for you, by requesting a status of substance application.
Importing approved explosives
To import an approved explosive, you must apply for an import certificate.
Importing or manufacturing a new explosive
To manufacture or import a new explosive into New Zealand for the first time, you need to make an application for approval.
We will assess the risks of the explosive and determine what controls should be applied.
