Apply for an explosives import certificate

​To apply for an Explosives Import Certificate, complete the application form and submit with payment. 

You will also need to provide copies of the Approved Handler and Location Test Certificates to prove that you have a suitable location to store and manage explosives, if the quantity and class of explosive requires them.

Import certificate application fees 

The application fees for importing explosives, including novelty explosives, can be found in our fees and charges schedule.

Novelty explosives include:

  • Party poppers
  • Christmas crackers
  • Christmas cracker snaps
  • Christmas bon-bons
  • Ring caps for toy guns

How long will it take to process the certificate?

The certificate will be processed within 10 working days of receipt of payment.

Do your goods exceed NZ$1,000?

If the value of the goods exceeds NZ$1,000, you also need an Import Entry Permit from the New Zealand Customs Service.
