Applying for a modified reassessment

A modified reassessment is where a specific aspect of an approval is reassessed.  This may be the controls or description of the hazardous substance (or both).

Anyone may apply for a modified reassessment of a hazardous substance approval.

Modified reassessment is a two-step process.

STEP 1: Grounds must be established showing there is a good reason to review the substance.

STEP 2: a modified reassessment may be made if the Authority determines that the reassessment involves only a specific aspect of the approval and is not a minor or technical amendment.

How do you apply for a modified reassessment?

Once grounds are established, you need to apply for a modified reassessment.

Who pays and how much will it cost?

The person requesting the application pays.  However, the Authority may agree to waive part of these charges if it is considered that there is public interest in carrying out the reassessment.  You will need to discuss the fees with us before proceeding.

Is a modified reassessment application publicly notified?

A modified reassessment of a hazardous substance may not be publicly notified.  If it is not, we will consult with those persons who may be affected by the reassessment and give them a reasonable opportunity to make submissions and comments, and those submissions and comments will be considered by the Authority.
