Who do I contact for enforcement?

We work closely with compliance and enforcement agencies. If you wish to report a compliance issue, please contact the relevant agency from the link below:

Hazardous waste and ozone depleting substances

To report matters concerning hazardous waste and ozone depleting substances (i.e. not complying with the Import and export (Restrictions) Act) contact the hazardous substances group or phone the HS information line.

Other hazardous substance and new organism matters

To report any other matter that requires an enforcement response (e.g.. not complying with the required HSNO controls) contact the enforcement agency responsible for that specific area.

Travel and transport

In or on any motor or rail vehicle, on any road or railway line:

In or on any aircraft:

In or on any ship:

At the border

Public health

Where it is necessary to protect public health:

Distribution systems, gas installations or appliances

In, on, at, or around any distribution system, gas installation or gas appliance:

All other premises including any premise where the RMA is being enforced

Each territorial authority is responsible for enforcement:
  • in or on any premises situated within their district other than those premises mentioned above
  • those premises specified above where the function, power or duty has been transferred to the territorial authority by another enforcement agency.

The territorial authority may also enforce the HSNO Act if they are on the premises for the purpose of enforcing the Resource Management Act (RMA).

Each regional council may enforce the HSNO Act if they are on the premises for the purpose of enforcing the provisions of the RMA, or in or on those premises mentioned above if the function, power or duty has been transferred to the them by another enforcement agency.
