In terms of hazardous substances and new organisms, the EPA  engages directly with tangata whenua to ensure Māori have a voice in decisions about how and when hazardous substances and new organisms are introduced, developed or used in New Zealand.

Applicants seeking certain types of approval are also required to engage with tangata whenua. Kaupapa Kura Taiao staff can help applicants and tangata whenua navigate this engagement process.
