We register incidents involving new organisms and hazardous substances in order to monitor the effectiveness of the regulatory system and the appropriateness of controls.
An incident is an event that may or may not involve non-compliance with regulatory requirements and/or cause adverse effects to human health and safety, or the environment.
Incident data is primarily collected by through our monitoring of compliance, reported to us by enforcement agencies, from the New Zealand Fire Service or identified through media monitoring.
We include summaries of incident information in our annual report to Parliament, and in our annual monitoring report.
