You can only make a submission on an application that has been publicly notified. Some application types must be publicly notified while others are not. There are also some applications types that may be publicly notified only if it is thought there will be significant public interest about it. The decision to publicly notify these applications or not is made by our Chief Executive and is made prior to the formal receipt of the application.
The following applications must be publicly notified:
Release a new or genetically modified organism without controls
Release a new or genetically modified organism with controls
Field test a genetically modified organism
Release a new or genetically modified organism in an emergency
The following applications are not publicly notified:
Release a new organism by rapid assessment that is not genetically modified
Release a new organism with controls by rapid assessment that is not genetically modified
Import, develop, ferment or regenerate a low risk genetically modified organism in containment
Release a low risk human or animal medicine containing a new organism
Release a new or genetically modified organism in a special emergency
Tranship a new or genetically modified organism through New Zealand
- Determination of whether an organism is new
- Determation of whether there are grounds for the reassessment of an exisitng approval
- Amendment of an exisitng approval
The following applications the Chief Executive makes the decision to notify or not:
Import, field test, regenerate or ferment a new organism into containment (not rapidly assessed)
Import or develop (including regenerate or ferment) a genetically modified organism in containment (not low risk)
