Pre-hearing
session dates
The Board confirmed that pre-hearing sessions, including
witness caucusing were to occur on the 6, 7 & 8 April with extra
days on 18 & 19 April if needed.
Patricia (Trish) Fordyce has been awarded a contract to
provide facilitation services to submitters on the prison
proposal. This service will be a resource to submitters, to
assist and to streamline the submitters’ participation in the board of
inquiry process.
Trish will arrange and run a series of workshops/meetings with
lay submitters in order to refine and isolate issues prior to the
pre-hearing conference and to provide information to submitters about
the board of inquiry process.

Assistance
for submitters
Information regarding this proposal was published via
multiple channels. In addition to the newspaper advertisements:
Manurewa marae was been confirmed as a Friend of the Submitters session
venue; the Chair of the Pukaki marae was contacted and provided
with fact sheets and submission forms.
Submitters should be aware of the Environmental Legal
Assistance Fund (ELA Fund) available through the Ministry for the
Environment. The Fund provides not-for-profit groups with financial
assistance to advocate for an environmental issue of public interest in
resource management cases being considered by the Environment Court, or
by a board of inquiry.

The Board of Inquiry members undertook a site visit on the
afternoon of Tuesday 03 May 2011 observing and visiting the following
locations:
- 1300 – 1330: Wiri Oil Services and Liquigas facility (WOSL)
– The Board was shown around the site.
- 1330 – 1400: The Board drove down McLaughlins Road
observing the boundary of the ARWCF.
- 1400 – 1500: ARWCF - The Board was shown around the ARCWF.

The Board of Inquiry visited Spring Hill Corrections Facility
on 20 January 2011. The Board was shown around the facility by
Corrections’ staff and also had the opportunity to ask questions about
the facility.
The Board also briefly visited the proposed site at 20 Hautu
Drive, Wiri.
Further site visits may be undertaken by the Board, if
required.
