On 15 August 2011, the Environmental
Protection Authority (EPA) received applications (matters) from the New
Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), Porirua City Council, and Transpower
New Zealand Limited, for Notices of Requirement and Resource Consents for the Transmission Gully Proposal.
The Notices of Requirement and Resource
Consent matters are for the construction, operation and maintenance of
the Transmission Gully Proposal, which is a proposed 27km inland
alternative to State Highway 1 that will run between Linden (Wellington
City) and MacKays Crossing (Kapiti Coast District).

The Hearing for the Transmission Gully Proposal has now started. The hearing is scheduled to run through until the week of 12 March 2012. See the Hearing section below for details of what happened each day at the hearing, and the schedule.

The Minister for the Environment has appointed five members to form a Board of Inquiry to consider the Transmission Gully Proposal.
