The Board of Inquiry formally closed the Northern Corridor Improvements proposal hearing on 12 September 2017.

Hearing update

The Northern Corridor Improvements proposal hearing has now concluded. The Board of Inquiry has adjourned the hearing to allow for outstanding matters raised in the hearing to be resolved. The Board have given the parties a timeframe of Friday to resolve these matters, after which they will formally close the hearing.

Provision of evidence and teleconference (Minute 1 & 2)

The Board of Inquiry (BOI) has issued Board Minute No. 1 in relation to the provision of evidence outlining the timeframes for applicant's evidence in chief, submitters' evidence and rebuttal evidence. 

The BOI has also issued Board Minute No. 2 in relation to the teleconference held on 3 March 2017 between counsel for New Zealand Transport Agency (the applicant) and representatives from Auckland Council. The Board has requested the applicant provide certain documents as outlined in Minute No. 2 prior to the pre-hearing conference.

Further Information request

On 6 March 2017, the BOI requested further information from the applicant under section 92 of the Resource Management Act 1991.

Close of submission period

Submissions closed at 5pm on Wednesday 22 March 2017. The EPA is currently processing the submissions received and will acknowledge those people that have submitted on the application shortly. A list of all submitters and a Summary of Submissions Report will be made available in due course.

Friend of Submitter

The EPA has appointed an independent Friend of Submitter, Michael Campbell, to give free assistance to submitters to ensure they understand the process and take part. He will not discuss the merits of the proposal, or write submissions. He will hold five local drop-in sessions, starting Saturday 4 March, and is available by appointment.

Notification and submissions

The application was publicly notified on 22 February 2017. Submissions on the proposal must be received by the EPA by 5pm, 22 March 2017.
 
The Minister for the Environment made his Direction referring the Northern Corridor Improvements proposal to a Board of Inquiry on 8 February 2017.
 
The EPA's recommendation to the Minister for the Environment was made on 22 December 2016.
 
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) lodged an application for six notices of requirements and 25 resource consents with the Environmental  Protection Authority (EPA) on 14 December 2016. The EPA accepted the application as complete on 22 December 2016.

The Minister for the Environment made his Direction referring the Northern Corridor Improvements proposal to a Board of Inquiry on 8 February 2017.

The EPA's recommendation to the Minister for the Environment was made on 22 December 2016.

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) lodged an application for six notices of requirements and 25 resource consents with the Environmental  Protection Authority (EPA) on 14 December 2016.​
