The Environmental Protection Authority is in charge of considering applications for marine consents for New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone, or EEZ.

Usually people need to apply for marine consents to do things related to the oil, gas and mineral industries.

People also have to notify us about other types of work in the EEZ that does not require a marine consent, such as scientific research, seismic surveying and laying submarine cables.

This page lets you access information about current applications for marine consents, and notifications of other work in the EEZ.

Current permitted activities

People who do 'permitted activities' in the EEZ must follow certain rules, and notify us about their work. These activities include scientific research, seismic surveying and laying submarine cables.
