Post-drill environmental monitoring

The EPA received an Impact Assessment from OMV New Zealand on 14 February 2014 regarding their upcoming post-drill environmental monitoring activities at the Matuku-1 well location in the Taranaki Basin. The monitoring programme includes the removal of non-living material from the seabed, which is a restricted activity under the EEZ Act.

The EPA has reviewed the Impact Assessment and accepted it as complete. OMV was notified of this decision on 27 February 2014.

Taranaki Basin 

The EPA received an Impact Assessment, under section 166 of the EEZ Act, from OMV on 30 June 2013 for their upcoming exploratory, appraisal and development drilling projects at their Maari platform and oil fields Mania and Matuku in the Taranaki Basin.

OMV is looking to drill up to five exploration wells between these two fields and five development wells at the Maari platform. 

The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment submitted by OMV and accepted it as complete on 1 July 2013 following an extensive review process undertaken during the interim measures of the EEZ Act.

Anadarko

Canterbury Basin

On 10 July 2013, Anadarko submitted an Impact Assessment to the EPA under section 166 of the EEZ Act. The Impact Assessment relates to their proposed  exploratory drilling campaign in the Canterbury Basin.  

The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment submitted by Anadarko and returned it as incomplete on 24 July 2013.

On 1 November 2013, Anadarko submitted a revised Impact Assessment for its proposed exploratory drilling campaign in the Canterbury Basin. The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment submitted by Anadarko and accepted it as complete. Anadarko was notified on 14 November 2013.

Deepwater Taranaki Basin

The EPA reviewed the Deepwater Taranaki Single Exploration Well Impact Assessment submitted by Anadarko and accepted it as complete. Anadarko was notified on 26 September 2013.

Anadarko's Deepwater Taranaki Single Exploration Well Impact Assessment (pdf, 5 mb)

Pre-drill Environmental Monitoring Programme

On 13 September 2013, Anadarko submitted an Impact Assessment to the EPA under section 166 of the EEZ Act.  The Impact Assessment relates to their Pre-drill Environmental Monitoring programme for their exploratory drilling campaigns in the Deepwater Taranaki and Canterbury Basins.

The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment for a Pre-Drill Environmental Monitoring programme submitted by Anadarko and accepted it as complete. Anadarko was notified on 19 September, 2013.

Anadarko's Pre-drill Seabed Environmental Monitoring Impact Assessment (pdf, 2.1 mb)

AWE Limited 

On 6 September 2013, AWE submitted an Impact Assessment to the EPA under section 166 of the EEZ Act.  The Impact Assessment relates to their proposed drilling campaign in the Tui area oil field of the Taranaki Basin.

The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment  submitted by AWE and accepted it as complete.  AWE Ltd were notified on 20 September, 2013.

Shell Todd Oil Services Limited

On 10 October 2013, Shell Todd Oil Services (STOS) Ltd submitted an Impact Assessment to the EPA under section 166 of the EEZ Act. The Impact Assessment relates to their proposed exploratory drilling campaign and their pre-drill environmental monitoring programme in the Taranaki Basin. 

The EPA reviewed the Impact Assessment submitted by STOS Ltd and accepted it as complete. STOS Ltd were notified on 23 October 2013.
